Proposal for an international airport Zlin (Kunovice)
Proposal for an international airport Zlin (Kunovice)
Kunovice Airport (IATA: UHE, ICAO: LKKU) is an international airport located about 5 km (3 mi) from Uherské Hradiště, Czech Republic in the town of Kunovice.
Hereby I propose a plan for transformation of the currently unused (in passenger scheduled traffic) airport in Kunovice (Czech Republic).
The airport would be modernised to the role of the low- cost airport capable of serving such airlines like Wizzair or Ryanair. The existing runway length is sufficient to serve such airline, there exist two other airports (Dortmund in Germany, Beziers in France) that serve low cost airlines (Wizzair, Ryanair) with the runway of such length.
Existing terminal would be enlaged by adding a heated tent to provide capacity for passengers avaiting to board flights. A new terminal is possible, but it is not needed to start the services.
Airport in Kunovice would fouc on: low cost airlines (Ryanair, Easyjet, Wizzair)
charter operations
A new connection to Prague (Praha) would be introduced, but such a connection would need to be financially supported by regional authorities.
The airport would change its name to Zlin (Kunovice) International Airport. It would be upgraded by installing the ILS and / or DVOR / DME landing system equipment.
Ground transportation
In the beginning a bus service ot the airport express type would be introduced to Zlin, later the railway line would be enlarged - and a new section would be constructed to the airport Kunovice passenger terminal. Railway service would be introduced between Zlin and Kunovice airport, to cut journey times.
