Complaint that the rail infrastructure is out of use in Croatia, in coastal cities
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I was in Croatia last week, and I saw:
- scarce passenger transport offer, single- track lines. No plans for any revamp, as if there was some lobby working to not to develop rail transport in Croatia.
- no passengers in trains, virtually empty passenger trains. Occasionally, a family with a child arrived, took a child for a trip with the train, just to show to the child a railway as a tourist attraction.
-no through ticketing with busses and public transport in many cities- it is a good reason for the railway being out of use.
- no passenger trains in Zadar, in Sibenik etc.
- there is a huge potential for a decent passenger service on the Sibenik- Split rail line (with a change of train direction). I was in Sibenik trying to figure out what went wrong, and, definitely, the rail terminus for a DMU railcar is too far away from the bus station and ferry terminal. I attached a short drawing, how to add a new platform, a short one, for a dmu, by adding some 500 meters of track in the direction of the Sibenik city centre.
Cheers,
